Waspada memang penting, tapi jangan sampai kita menjadi paranoid.

The 9th July is a day of destiny for Fabio Cannavaro. On this day, exactly five years after lifting the World Cup in Berlin, the former Juventus defender has announced his retirement.

Cannavaro enjoyed a long and successful career, regardless of lifting football’s greatest prize in Germany and subsequently being awarded the Golden Ball. Amongst his lengthy list of honours are two Scudetto victories, achieved with Juventus in 2005 and 2006.

Many team-mates who are still playing today shared joy and success with Fabio, some of them currently in Bardonecchia. Juventus.com brings you their thoughts.

Gigi Buffon: “More than a team-mate, Fabio is a friend. We played together and won a lot. He was my shield on the pitch.”

Alessandro Del Piero: “A great player. We’re united with the memories of many victories with Juventus and the national side. I send him a hug.”

Juventus attacker Alessandro Matri has stated that the Turin side are determined to be successful in the upcoming season and added that unity will be key in their attempts to win silverware.

Juve finished only seventh in the Serie A table in 2010-11, but Matri is confident that they can do better this year under the guidance of new head coach Antonio Conte.

“The team’s objective this year is to win things. Everybody is very calm and determined to be successful. Our biggest strengths are our determination and that the team is united,” Matri was quoted as saying, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.

“Conte is very well known with the fans as a former captain. He’s a great leader for this team. He really has the will to win and feels the responsibility to do well, just like the rest of us. We have to be fully focused all year long.”

Matri joined Juventus from Cagliari on a six-month loan deal in January and developed into a key player in the season run-in, so much so that his stay at the club was made permanent in June.
